A short look at Shipping Profiles Automator, the Shopify app that moves every product into the right shipping profile using rules for tags, weight, price, vendor or SKU, so customers always see the right rates at checkout.

Prepare your shipping profiles
Shipping Profiles Automator moves products into shipping profiles (Shopify also calls them delivery profiles) that already exist in your store. Create each destination profile and its rates in Settings → Shipping and delivery before you build a rule.
A Shopify store, at least one custom shipping profile with rates, and permission to install apps and manage shipping settings.
Step one
Install the app and sync your profiles
- Install Shipping Profiles Automator from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions.
- Open the app. The dashboard's setup guide walks you through four steps: sync profiles, create a rule, preview, go live.
- Sync your shipping profiles. The list shows the default profile, the countries each profile ships to and how many rates it has.
- Fix any profile flagged as having no shipping rates. Customers can't check out with products in a profile that has no rates.
Step two
Create your first rule
A rule tells the app which products to find and which shipping profile they belong in.
- Create a new rule and give it a clear name, such as Oversized items.
- Choose the destination shipping profile.
- Add one or more conditions using the product tag, title, vendor, product type, SKU, price, weight or status (active, draft, archived or unlisted).
- Choose an operator: is equal to, is not equal to, contains, does not contain, greater than or less than, depending on the field.
- Join conditions with AND (all must match) or OR (any can match), check the plain-English summary, then save.

Price, SKU and weight check every variant: a positive condition matches if any variant matches, and a negative one only if no variant does. Weight uses your store's own unit. When several rules match a product, the rule highest in the list wins, so move specific rules up with the arrows.
Step three
Preview the changes
Preview mode shows exactly which products would move, and to which profile, before anything changes.
- Select Preview this rule in the rule editor, or preview a full sweep.
- Check the products listed and the profile each would move to.
- If anything looks wrong, adjust the conditions and preview again.
Without an active plan the app only previews. Nothing in your store changes until you choose a plan.
Step four
Go live
- Choose the Pro plan ($4.95 USD a month or $47.50 a year, with a seven-day free trial) to turn on live moves.
- Run a bulk sweep to apply all your rules to the existing catalogue, or use Run now on a single rule.
- From then on, new and edited products are checked automatically and usually moved within about a minute.
A safety check every 15 minutes picks up any product change Shopify didn't report to the app, so you don't need to run sweeps to catch up. If you cancel the plan, the app switches straight back to preview mode.
Step five
Check the results
- Open the activity log. Each check shows its reason: Moved X of Y variants, Already correct, No match, Preview, or an error marked Will retry.
- Filter by result or rule, or search for a product.
- On the shipping profiles page, use Check products on any profile to see which products should move, which have no rule and which are correct, then move them in one click.
Every move is verified: the app reads the product back from Shopify and only reports Moved once it has really landed. Temporary Shopify or network errors are retried automatically.

Market-driven shipping
From 1 October 2026 Shopify is rolling out market-driven shipping, where product-specific rates are set in Markets using collections instead of shipping profiles. The app detects stores that have switched, pauses live profile moves and shows a banner explaining why. Previews still work.
Support for market-driven shipping is in development: rules will be able to add products to the collections your market shipping rates use.

Shipping Profiles Automator FAQ
Does the app create shipping profiles?
No. Create your shipping profiles and rates in Shopify first. The app assigns products to those existing profiles and warns you about any profile with no rates.
What product information can rules use?
Product tag, title, vendor, product type, SKU, price, weight and status, combined with AND or OR.
How quickly are new products moved?
Usually within about a minute of being created or edited, with a safety check every 15 minutes for any change Shopify didn't report.
Can I preview changes before applying them?
Yes. Preview mode is available on every rule and for full sweeps, and the app stays in preview mode until you choose a plan.
Will the app change product titles, descriptions or prices?
No. It only changes which shipping profile a product is in. Products already in the right profile are left alone.
