Between 30 September and 3 October I shipped the biggest update yet to Shipping Profiles Automator, the Shopify app that automatically assigns products to the right shipping profile. Rules are more flexible, products move faster, and every move is checked. Here is what has changed and what it means for your store.
Shipping rules by tag, weight, price, SKU and more
Rules used to work from a product's tag, vendor, type or title. You can now also match on SKU, price, weight and status (active, draft, archived or unlisted). Weight uses your store's own unit, so a rule like "weight is greater than 20 kg" works as you'd expect.
Each condition can use is equal to, is not equal to, contains, does not contain, greater than or less than, depending on the field. Join conditions with AND when all of them must match, or OR when any of them can. Every rule now shows a plain-English summary, such as Product tag is equal to "oversized" or weight is greater than 20 kg, so you can see at a glance what it does.
Price, SKU and weight check every variant, not just the first one. A positive condition matches if any variant matches; a negative condition only matches if no variant does. Products with more than 100 variants are fully supported.
When several rules match the same product, the rule highest in your list wins. Reorder rules with the up and down arrows. You can also turn rules on or off, or delete them, in bulk.
Products move within about a minute
New and edited products are now checked automatically and moved to the right delivery profile, usually within about a minute. Shopify doesn't guarantee it will tell apps about every product change, so a safety check runs every 15 minutes to pick up anything it missed. You no longer need to run sweeps to catch up.
When you do want to update the whole catalogue, a bulk sweep applies all your rules to every product, read directly from Shopify. Run now applies a single rule to the whole store.
Every move is verified
After moving a product, the app reads it back from Shopify and only reports Moved once it has actually landed in the profile. If a move fails because of a temporary Shopify or network problem, it is retried automatically. Products that are already in the right profile are left alone and reported as Already correct.
Preview everything first
Preview mode shows exactly which products would move, and where, before anything changes. It works on every rule and for full sweeps. Without an active plan the app runs in preview mode; choosing a plan turns on live moves, and cancelling switches straight back to preview.
See inside your shipping profiles
The synced profile list now shows your default profile, the countries each profile ships to and how many rates it has. Profiles with no shipping rates get a warning, because customers can't check out with products in them.
Each profile also has Check products, with tabs for Should move, No rule applies and Correct, a search box, links to each product and a one-click Move N products button.
A clearer activity log
Every evaluation is logged with its reason: Moved X of Y variants to a profile, Already correct, No match, Preview, or the error with a Will retry badge. Filter by result or rule, search, and page through the history.
A rebuilt admin
The interface has been rebuilt to follow Shopify's Polaris design and Built for Shopify guidance. The dashboard has a setup guide (sync profiles, create a rule, preview, go live), 24-hour activity stats, your last sweep and recent activity. The rule editor uses Shopify's save bar, checks your conditions as you type, warns about profile problems and has a Preview this rule button. Help and the FAQ now live on one page. Behind the scenes I've also tightened security so each store can only ever access its own data.
Shopify's market-driven shipping
From 1 October 2026 Shopify is rolling out market-driven shipping, where product-specific rates are set in Markets using collections instead of shipping profiles. The app detects stores that have switched, pauses live profile moves there and shows a banner explaining why. Previews still work. Support for market-driven shipping is coming soon: rules will be able to add products to the collections your market rates use.
Also coming soon
After you save a rule, the app will offer to apply it to existing products straight away, with Apply now, Preview first or Not now.
Pricing
There's still one plan: Pro at $4.95 USD a month or $47.50 a year, with a seven-day free trial. Install Shipping Profiles Automator from the Shopify App Store, or read the setup guide first. If you have questions or want a hand with your rules, get in touch and I'll help.
