Search Index Manager in 30 seconds

A short look at Search Index Manager, the Shopify app that checks every product page in Google Search Console daily, explains why pages aren’t indexed and sends the missing ones to search engines.

Before you begin

What you need

New products can take weeks to appear in search results, and Shopify doesn't tell you which pages are missing. Search Index Manager uses your own Google Search Console data to show you, every day.

Shopify access

Permission to install apps. The app asks for write_products only, for the FAQ and last-sent metafields.

Google Search Console

The Google account that owns your store in Search Console. A Domain property is recommended.

Google decides what gets indexed

The app shows you which pages are missing and sends them so they can be crawled sooner. Google and other search engines still decide whether and when to index a page, so no app can promise instant indexing or rankings.

Step one

Install the app

  1. Open Search Index Manager: SEO on the Shopify App Store.
  2. Select Install and choose your store.
  3. Approve the write_products permission.
  4. Open the app from Shopify admin. You start on the free Starter plan.

Step two

Connect Google

  1. In the app, choose to connect your Google account.
  2. Sign in with the Google account that owns your store in Google Search Console.
  3. Approve the requested access.
  4. The app finds the right Search Console property for your store itself.
Property not found?

Check in Search Console that the account you connected is an owner of your store's property. A Domain property (for example yourstore.com) works best. Then reconnect from the app.

Step three

Check your products

Press Check products now. The app asks Search Console about each published product page and shows one of these statuses on the Products page.

In Google

The page is indexed.

Not in Google

Not indexed yet, with Google's reason: not found yet, discovered but not visited, or crawled but not added.

Blocked

Something such as robots.txt or a noindex tag stops Google indexing the page.

Page not found

The URL returns an error, so it needs fixing before it can be indexed.

Duplicate

Google treats another page as the main version of this one.

Redirects

The URL redirects to a different page.

Step four

Set up IndexNow

IndexNow lets the app send pages to Bing, Microsoft Copilot, Yandex and other search engines. It needs a small key file on your store. Settings in the app walks you through it.

  1. In the app, open Settings and get your IndexNow key .txt file.
  2. In Shopify admin, upload it to Content → Files.
  3. Add a URL redirect from /<key>.txt to /cdn/shop/files/<key>.txt.
  4. Back in Settings, check the key file shows as set up.

Step five

Let it run every day

Every day at 2am UTC the app checks your products again. Pages that aren't in Google go into a priority queue and are sent to Google's Indexing API and, once IndexNow is set up, to Bing, Microsoft Copilot, Yandex and others.

01
Daily sending allowance

Each store can send a set number of pages a day. Pro has a bigger allowance than Starter.

02
Resent after a week

A page that has been sent is only sent again if it still isn't indexed a week later.

03
Fix first, then send

Pages marked Blocked or Page not found aren't sent, because sending them wouldn't help until they're fixed.

To send the queue straight away instead of waiting for 2am, press Send queued pages now.

Step six

Add product FAQs

  1. Open the Product FAQs page in the app.
  2. Write FAQs for a product with AI. They're written only from the product's own title and description.
  3. Read each answer and edit anything that isn't right for your product.
  4. In your theme editor, add the Product FAQs app block to your product template.
Structured data only when visible

FAQ structured data is only added to a product page when the FAQs are visible on that page.

Step seven

Follow progress in Activity

The Activity page shows which pages were sent and which of them are now indexed. Give Google time: a page can take days or weeks to be crawled after it's sent.

The app's pages are Home, Products, Activity, Product FAQs, Settings, Plan, Help and FAQ.

Step eight

Fix pages that stay out of Google

Sending a page again can't fix a page Google can't reach or doesn't think is worth indexing. For pages that stay Blocked, Page not found or Not in Google, check:

After fixing a page, the app picks it up at the next daily check.

Common questions

Search Index Manager FAQ

Does Search Index Manager guarantee indexing or rankings?

No. Google decides whether and when to index a page, and other search engines decide for themselves. The app shows you which product pages are missing and why, and sends them to Google and IndexNow so they can be crawled sooner. It can't promise instant indexing or any ranking.

Which search engines are pages sent to?

Google, through Google's Indexing API. Once the IndexNow key file is set up, pages also go to Bing, Microsoft Copilot, Yandex and other IndexNow search engines.

How often are pages sent?

Once a day, at 2am UTC, within your store's daily sending allowance. You can also press Send queued pages now. A page is only sent again if it still isn't indexed a week later. Pages marked Blocked or Page not found aren't sent, because they need fixing first.

Which Google account should I connect?

The Google account that owns your store in Google Search Console. A Domain property is recommended, and the app finds the right property itself. If it can't, check the account has owner access to the property in Search Console, then reconnect.

Does it change my theme or store customer data?

Product FAQs only appear if you add the Product FAQs theme app block to your product template, and FAQ structured data is only added when the FAQs are visible on the page. The app asks for write_products only, for the FAQ and last-sent metafields, and stores no customer data.

What do the Starter and Pro plans include?

Starter is free and covers your first 10 published products: checked daily in Search Console, sent to Google and IndexNow, plain-English reasons, AI product FAQs and activity reports. Pro is $14.99 every 30 days or $149 a year, with a 7-day free trial, and covers every published product with a bigger daily sending allowance. Billing is through Shopify, and development stores get test charges. If you subscribed before the October 2026 price change, you keep the price you signed up at.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

Your Google connection and the queue are deleted straight away, and everything else 48 hours later. Search engines keep control of their own indexes, so pages already indexed stay as they are.
