Before you begin
Write a message that helps customers decide
Product notices work best when they provide specific information at the point where a customer needs it. Keep the message concise, accurate and relevant to the products receiving it.
Explain unusual dispatch times, freight requirements or seasonal delivery deadlines.
State expected availability and make any important purchasing conditions clear.
Describe a genuine offer, its scope and any relevant end date without hiding important terms.
Highlight final-sale status, compatibility details or another important product-specific condition.
Material terms, safety information and legally required disclosures should remain properly presented in the appropriate product content and policies.
Step one
Install Product Notices & Labels
- Open Product Notices & Labels in the Shopify App Store.
- Select Install and choose the correct Shopify store.
- Review the requested product and collection permissions.
- Approve the installation and open the app from Shopify admin.
Step two
Create your first notice rule
- Open the notice rule manager.
- Select Create new rule.
- Give the rule a clear internal name that explains its purpose.
- Write the customer-facing notice text.
- Choose a suitable template, icon or initial style.
- Keep the rule inactive until targeting and storefront placement are ready.
“Dispatches within 10 working days” is more useful than “Delivery may take longer than normal”.
Step three
Choose where the notice applies
Use for a message that applies only to named products, such as an unusual lead time.
Use when all products in a selected collection share the same message.
Use sparingly for broad information that genuinely applies to every eligible product.
Review any available exclusion controls when a broad rule should not apply everywhere.
- Select the targeting type in the rule.
- Choose the relevant products or collections.
- Review the final selection before saving.
- Test one product that should match and one that should not.
Step four
Set start and end dates where needed
- Enable scheduling for a temporary notice.
- Choose the intended start date and time.
- Add an end date for promotions, seasonal delivery messages or limited events.
- Check which time zone the app or store uses.
- Save the rule and allow time for the scheduled processing cycle.
For an ongoing product condition, leave the schedule open only if the notice will remain accurate. Review permanent notices periodically.
Step five
Control overlapping rules with priority
A product can match more than one notice rule. Use priority deliberately so the most important eligible message is presented first.
Give a narrowly targeted, important product message a higher priority.
Use a middle priority for information shared by products in a collection.
Keep a broad notice below more relevant product-specific information.
After changing priority, preview a product affected by multiple rules and confirm the intended message wins.
Step six
Add the Product Notices app block
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Select Customise for the theme you want to use.
- Open the relevant product template.
- In the product information area, select Add block.
- Choose the Product Notices app block.
- Position it close to the product information or purchase controls where customers will notice it.
- Save the theme.
Add the app block to each product template that needs to display notices. A block added to one template does not automatically appear in every other template.
Step seven
Style and test the complete experience
Preview the unpublished theme first when changing app-block placement or replacing an existing notice system.
Troubleshooting
If a notice does not appear
Confirm that the rule is active and currently inside its scheduled date range.
Verify that the current product or one of its collections is included in the rule.
Another eligible rule may be taking precedence on the product.
Confirm that the app block exists in the exact product template assigned to the current product.
After saving rule changes, allow time for scheduled background processing and then refresh the storefront without cached content.
Common questions
Product Notices & Labels FAQ
Can I target individual products and collections?
Yes. Notice rules can target selected products, selected collections or the entire store, depending on the message you need to display.
What happens when several notice rules match one product?
Use rule priority to control which eligible message appears first. Test products affected by overlapping rules before publishing.
What happens when a scheduled notice expires?
After its configured end date, the notice becomes ineligible for display when the app processes the schedule. Allow time for the update and verify the affected product page.
Do I need to edit my Shopify theme code?
Compatible Online Store 2.0 themes can use the Product Notices app block through Shopify's visual theme editor. Custom or older themes may require additional theme work.
Can customers dismiss a notice?
Yes. The Pro plan includes dismissible banner support. Use this for messages customers do not need to see repeatedly.
Is a free trial available?
Yes. The Pro plan currently includes a seven-day free trial. It costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year after the trial, with billing handled through Shopify.
