Before you begin
Prepare your shipping profiles
Shipping Profile Automator assigns products to shipping profiles that already exist in Shopify. Before creating a rule, make sure the destination profile has been created in your Shopify shipping settings.
An active Shopify store, at least one custom shipping profile and permission to install apps and manage shipping settings.
Step one
Install the app
- Open Shipping Profile Automator in the Shopify App Store.
- Select Install and choose the store you want to connect.
- Review the requested permissions and approve the installation.
- Open the app from your Shopify admin.
Step two
Create your first rule
A rule tells the app which products to find and which shipping profile they should use.
- Select the option to create a new shipping rule.
- Give the rule a clear name, such as Heavy products.
- Choose the destination shipping profile.
- Select a condition based on a product tag, vendor, product type or title.
- Enter the value the app should match, then save the rule.

Step three
Preview the changes
Review the products that match your rule before applying any shipping-profile changes.
- Run the preview or dry-run option for your rule.
- Check the list of matching products.
- If anything looks wrong, return to the rule and adjust its conditions.
- Preview it again until the results are correct.
A preview lets you check the outcome before applying changes to your live product catalogue.
Step four
Apply your rule
- Enable the rule when you are satisfied with the preview.
- Run the rule to update matching products in your existing catalogue.
- Allow the process to finish before editing or rerunning the rule.
The app can then use your enabled rules when it checks new and updated products.
Step five
Check your assignments
- Open the app's activity or assignment history.
- Confirm that the expected products moved to the correct profile.
- Review any product that did not match and adjust the relevant rule if necessary.
Use clear, specific conditions where possible. This makes your rules easier to understand and reduces unexpected matches.
